Application of Low Carbon Ferrochrome
Ferrochrome is mainly used as an alloy additive for steelmaking, which used to be added in the later stage of refining. Low carbon steel smelting, such as stainless steel, must use low, micro carbon ferrochrome, so the production of refined ferrochrome has been relatively large-scale development. Due to the improvement of steelmaking process, AOD method (see furnace refining) and other stainless steel production, with carbon ferrochrome (mainly charging grade ferrochrome) furnace, so only in the late add low, micro carbon ferrochrome adjustment composition, so the focus of ferrochrome production is refining carbon ferrochrome.
High carbon ferrochrome refining method is divided into chromium ore refining high carbon ferrochrome and oxygen refining high carbon ferrochrome. When high carbon chromite is used, the slag of refining furnace has higher viscosity and melting point, and the smelting temperature must be higher. Therefore, high power consumption, short lining life, carbon content is not easy to come down. Oxygen smelting high carbon ferrochrome has great advantages, such as high productivity, low cost, high recovery rate.
