Classification Of Ferrochromium

Chromium iron is divided into high carbon chromium iron according to different carbon contents, including charging grade chromium iron (C ≤ 10%), medium carbon chromium iron (C ≤ 4.0%), low carbon chromium iron (C ≤ 0.5%), micro carbon chromium iron (C ≤ 0.15%), etc. Commonly used include silicon chromium alloy, nitrided chromium iron, etc. Chromium iron is mainly used as an alloy additive in steelmaking, and has been added in the later stage of steelmaking refining in the past. The smelting of low-carbon steel such as stainless steel requires the use of low and low-carbon ferrochrome, resulting in a large-scale development of refined ferrochrome production. Due to the improvement of steelmaking process, when producing stainless steel and other steel grades using AOD method (see refining outside the furnace), carbon chromium iron (mainly charging grade chromium iron) is used for furnace charging, so only low and low-carbon chromium iron needs to be added in the later stage to adjust the composition. Therefore, the focus of chromium iron production is to refine carbon chromium iron.
