According to the carbon content in the ferro chrome alloy, it can be divided into three categories.
1Micro-carbon(LC) ferro chrome: C 0.06 to 0.15% and Low-carbon(LC) ferro chrome: C 0.15~0.5%;
2 Medium carbon(MC) ferro chrome: C 0.5~4%;
3 High-carbon(HC) ferro chrome: C 4 to 8%;
Ferrochrome applications

Low Carbon Ferrochrome

Medium Carbon Ferrochrome
Medium carbon ferrochrome (MC FeCr), with a carbon content of between 0.5-4%, is used in the foundry industry as well as in steelmaking plants where refining capacity is limited but low silicon content is desired.
MC FeCr can be produced by the silico-thermic reduction of chromite ore and concentrates or by the decarburisation of HC FeCr in an oxygen-blown converter. The silico-thermic route is more economic and therefore more important today for producing MC FeCr. This may be because of the low demand for MC FeCr compared to the high demand for HC FeCr. LC FeCr can be produced by the same process.
High carbon ferrochrome
The high-carbon ferrochrome refining method is to refine high-carbon ferrochrome with chrome ore, and can also use oxygen to refine low-carbon ferrochrome. If low-carbon ferrochrome is used in chrome ore concentrate, the slag in the refining furnace has greater viscosity and High melting point, the temperature must be very high during the smelting process, so the power consumption is high, the life of the furnace lining is short, and the carbon content is not easy to drop.
